Hoy 21 de octubre de 2004, ICANN (Corporación de Asignación de Nombres y
Números de Internet) y el NRO (Number Resource Organization)
firmaron un Memorando de Entendimiento (MoU) que concierne
específicamente al ASO (Organización de Soporte de Direccionamiento). El
documento fue firmado durante el Foro Público de Políticas en la XIV
Reunión de ARIN en Reston, Virginia. El acuerdo estipula cómo el NRO
cumplirá el rol, las responsabilidades y las funciones del ASO según se
define en el Reglamento de ICANN.<br>

Para la comunidad de Internet, el nuevo MoU relativo al ASO define un
proceso de desarrollo de políticas que promueve la autorregulación del
espacio de recursos de numeración no asignados (IPv4, IPv6 y números de
sistema autónomo) por parte de la industria. Este mismo proceso de
desarrollo de políticas se ha estado utilizando durante años en cada uno
de los Registros Regionales de Internet (RIR) que conforman la NRO.

On October 21, 2004 ICANN and the Number Resource Organization
(NRO)<br>
signed the ICANN Address Supporting Organization (ASO) Memorandum
of<br>
Understanding. This document was signed at the ARIN XIV Public
Policy<br>
Meeting in Reston, Virginia. The agreement stipulates how the NRO
will<br>
fulfil the role, responsibilities, and functions of the ASO as outlined
in<br>
the ICANN Bylaws.<br>
<br>
For the Internet community, the new ASO MoU outlines a policy process
that<br>
promotes industry self-regulation of the unallocated number resource
pool<br>
(IPv4, IPv6, and AS numbers). The same policy process has been in
practice<br>
for years in each of the Regional Internet Registries (RIRs) that
comprise<br>
the NRO.<br>
