<b>Five Projects Rewarded for Contributing to the Development of the
Information Society in Latin America and the Caribbean</b><br>

Five initiatives that have notably contributed to Internet use in
Latin America and the Caribbean received the Regional Fund for
Digital Innovation in Latin America and the Caribbean (FRIDA) Award
today.<br>
<br>
The winning projects are from Trinidad and Tobago, Argentina, Chile,
Mexico and Colombia, and were awarded the FRIDA 2012 Award
(programafrida.net) for their contribution in the areas of Internet
Access, Freedoms, Development and Innovation. Special mentions were
also awarded to proposals from Uruguay and Brazil.<br>
<br>
From over 60 projects submitted, the FRIDA 2012 Award has recognized
the five initiatives that in recent years have contributed the most
to the development of the Information Society in Latin America and
the Caribbean, identifying good practices that can be duplicated and
contribute to showcase positive experiences to the region's decision
makers.<br>
