Hail IX Aficionados!
I am writing you today with my IX-Denver hat on, and I’m asking for your help as friends and interconnection industry experts.
I’m working with Jane Coffin and others at ISOC to develop an open set of materials describing “Why Peer” and “Why Start an IX.” The idea is to create a pair of highly informed slide decks, possibly with accompanying papers (BCOP style). We then want to use those slide decks for a series of webinars to educate folks around the world. The slide decks and speaking notes will also be made available for anyone who chooses to present the information at a local/regional NOG / peering forum / etc. My hope is that we can also create some form of quick online course or video series, to reach the most folks possible.
Why Peer is meant to reach anyone with an ASN who isn’t currently peering. This came up from conversations I’ve been having with enterprises, government agencies, and others who may see a benefit from peering but have never considered it. I think it should describe what peering is, what the potential benefits are, and how to get started.
Why Start an IX is meant to reach folks in areas of low interconnection and inspire them to start an IX. It should also be written in a way to reach regulators and others who may be in a position to facilitate, or not, a new IX. This is an ongoing goal of many of us. I think it should describe what an IX is, what the value of an IX is, and how to build and operate an IX.
If you are interested in helping develop this content, and guide it’s distribution and use, please respond to me before the end of this week (by EoD 13 May).
Feel free to also forward this message to others you think have something to contribute. Once I have a list of the right folks, I’ll use doodle to get a kickoff call scheduled and we can shape this project together, based on everyone’s thoughts and experience.
Please join us, the more the merrier!
Cheers,
~Chris
