===================================
CALL FOR PAPERS
VWPIETF 2021 - VIII Workshop Pré-IETF/IRTF
http://wpietf.sbc.org.br/

** Final Deadline: April 16, 2021**
===================================

About:

The Workshop Pré-IETF/IRTF (WPIETF) is an annual event that aims to foster
and expand the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) presence in Latin
America. The IETF is an international community interested in fulfilling
the mission of defining standards that impact the design, use, and
management of Internet resources (RFC3935
<http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc3935.txt>)
<http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc3935.txt)>.

Establishing standards for the Internet is long, complex, and requires
active participation, particularly of students and researchers. There are
many people worldwide actively contributing to the IETF. However, there is
a growing need for more fresh participation.

The Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) region's attendance has been
relatively low due to many potential candidates not knowing about the IETF
or not having real incentives to participate. To change this reality, a
group of volunteers, emerged from the IETF – LAC group (IETF Latin America
and the Caribbean), created the WPIETF workshop in 2014, aiming to improve
the LAC region presence in the IETF processes. Besides disseminating
information about the IETF, it is important to provide an environment that
allows our technicians, students, and researchers to show their proposals
in advance to any IETF meeting. In this context, the WPIETF is a
technical-scientific forum for setting technicians, students, and
researchers to the IETF, where theoretical and practical works have been
presented, in addition to talks and panels.

In 2021, in its eighth edition, the WPIETF will be held in Florianópolis -
SC, in conjunction with the XLI Congresso da Sociedade Brasileira de
Computação (CSBC 2021 <https://www.sbc.org.br/csbc2021/>). It is supported
by the NIC.br/CGI.br, Futurewei, and the Brazilian Chapter of the Internet
Society (ISOC Brazil).

Topics of Interest:

The VIII WPIETF invites practitioners and researchers to submit technical
papers reporting original research and experience results that fit into at
least one of the seven areas of interest of the IETF. They are:

   -

   Applications and Real-Time Area (art
   <https://datatracker.ietf.org/wg/#art>): application protocols and
   architectures, such as e-mail and the Web;
   -

   General Area (gen <https://datatracker.ietf.org/wg/#gen>): activities
   focused on supporting, updating and maintaining the IETF standards or that
   do not fit into any of the available areas;
   -

   Internet Area (int <https://datatracker.ietf.org/wg/#int>): include IP
   layer (both IPv4 and IPv6), implications of IPv4 address depletion,
   co-existence between the IP versions, and so forth;
   -

   Operations and Management Area (ops
   <https://datatracker.ietf.org/wg/#ops>): operation, monitoring, and
   configuration of networks;
   -

   Routing Area (rtg <https://datatracker.ietf.org/wg/#rtg>): routing
   protocols and packet routing to your destination;
   -

   Security Area (sec <https://datatracker.ietf.org/wg/#sec>): security and
   privacy;
   -

   Transport Area (tsv <https://datatracker.ietf.org/wg/#tsv>): development
   of data transport protocols for special packages.

Moreover, works in computer networks will also be considered, with themes
that do not fit in the official areas and preferably include topics related
to the IRTF research groups <https://irtf.org/groups>.

Submission Instructions:

Authors must submit Full Papers (limited to 14 pages) or Short/Abstract
Papers (limited to 6 pages). The maximum number of pages includes an
abstract, figures, diagrams, references, and attachments. The committee
also reserves the right to accept texts submitted in the full article
category as a short article. The text can be written in Portuguese,
Spanish, or English, following the formats (LaTeX and Word) available on
the SBC website (download link <http://tinyurl.com/sbc-template-artigos>).

Each paper must be submitted in PDF via the Web submission form at the
JEMS system
(link for submission <https://jems.sbc.org.br/csbc2021_wpietf>). Authors
are highly encouraged to publish software and data sets as open-source/data.

Review Process and Publication:

All submitted manuscripts will follow a double-blinded review process and
subsequent judgment. In this context, all the authors' names and
affiliations must not be present in the submitted manuscript. Submissions
will be judged on correctness, originality, technical strength,
significance, quality of presentation, and interest and relevance to the
workshop scope. Authors have the option of attaching supplemental material,
such as source code, to the article. However, this material will not be
part of the assessment.

Those articles with the best qualifications will be selected to compose the
proceedings and presented at the event. The registration of at least one
author of the paper is mandatory to insert the paper in the proceedings.
Authors with more than one accepted paper, in any event, may pay a single
registration fee, plus an “extra publication fee” per additional paper.

The WPIETF reserves the right to not include in the proceedings those
papers that, during the workshop, are not presented by one of their authors
or by a designated presenter. The presentation can be in Portuguese or
English.

Finally, all works presented at the WPIETF will have the possibility to be
adapted or complemented, if necessary, and forwarded to the IETF, with
adequate support (by the Post-WPIETF Committee).

Best Paper Award:

In this edition, through the support of *Futurewei*, the best paper will be
awarded a trip to participate in the 112th or 113th IETF meeting. The award
will be given to a single author, preferably the first author. The benefits
will be:

   -

   Airplane Tickets;
   -

   Event Registration;
   -

   Accommodation.

Besides, the best paper authors will be invited to submit an extended
version for an edition of the Journal of Network and Systems Management
(JNSM), impact factor 2.250.

The steering committee will evaluate the works. The main criteria for
selecting the best paper, in addition to scientific rigor and
contributions, will be the potential to become an IETF draft and later an
RFC.
