FWIW, I do host content of one sort of another (yes, not that I run
popular sites), and I don't think I have a social responsibility as such.

Similarly, I don't think it is the duty of people hosting content that
giving answers to society, or figuring out what's in the society's best
interests.

In fact, when looking at whom "society" elect as leaders, I have not
much of an option to believe that society does not care about their own
interests.

Rant aside, unless there is a requirements stipulated by law, the rest
are just philosophical arguments about which there are no facts. -- just
perceptions of "what's the interest of society", "what society
deserves", etc.
