+Raices: PRIMER SERVIDOR RAIZ EN EL CARIBE
St. Maarten, Antillas Neerlandesas  

9 de julio de 2009 - St. Maarten, Antillas Neerlandesas.- Dando 
cumplimiento al acuerdo firmado durante la reunión de LACNIC XII, en 
mayo de este año en Panamá, LACNIC (Registro de Direcciones IP para 
América Latina y el Caribe), ISC (Internet Systems Consortium) y OC-IX  
(Open Caribbean Internet Exchange) instalaron hoy en St. Maarten el 
primer Servidor Raíz en el Caribe (séptimo en la región de América 
Latina y el Caribe) bajo el proyecto +Raices.

La inauguración se realizó en el marco del lanzamiento oficial del 1er 
IXP (punto de intercambio de tráfico) del Caribe en la sede de OC-IX. 
Participaron en el evento representantes de ISC, LACNIC y OC-IX.
La instalación de esta copia del servidor raíz implica una notable 
mejora en el acceso directo a la red por parte de los usuarios y 
proveedores de servicios de Internet del Caribe y cuenta con el apoyo 
financiero de LACNIC y aportes de equipamiento de Cisco Systems.

El Proyecto +Raices, es una iniciativa de LACNIC conjuntamente con ISC 
para promover la instalación de copias del Servidor F en América Latina 
y el Caribe. A la fecha +Raices ha permitido concretar la instalación en 
la región de un total de siete copias en Chile, México , Argentina, 
Venezuela, Panamá, Ecuador y St. Maarten significando una notable mejora 
de la red en esos países y una contribución relevante a la estabilidad 
de Internet en toda la región y a nivel global.

Este proyecto es un ejemplo de los modelos de cooperación 
multistakeholder promovidos por la Cumbre Mundial de la Sociedad de la 
Información, donde organismos gubernamentales y privados trabajan juntos 
en beneficio de la estabilidad y el crecimiento de Internet en la 
región, con los cuales LACNIC se encuentra plenamente comprometido.

+Raices: 1st ROOT SERVER IN THE CARIBBEAN

July 9, 2009 - Sint Maarten, Netherlands Antilles.- Accomplishing the 
agreement signed during the LACNIC XII meeting, in the city of Panama, 
Panama, on May of the current year, LACNIC (Latin American and Caribbean 
Internet Addresses Registry), ISC (Internet Systems Consortium)  and 
OC-IX (The Open Caribbean Internet Exchange) installed today in St. 
Maarten the first DNS Root Server in the Caribbean (seventh for the 
Latin America and the Caribbean region) under the +RAICES Project.

The inauguration event took place today July 9, in the frame of the 
official launch of the 1st Internet Exchange Point (IXP) of the 
Caribbean at OC-IX in St Maarten. Represesntatives of ISC, LACNIC and 
OC-IX participated in the event. The installation of this copy, which is 
hosted by OC-IX, implies a suitable improvement in the direct access to 
the net by Caribbean users and Internet services providers. It is 
supported by LACNIC and received equipment from Cisco Systems.

The +Raices Project is an initiative undertaken by LACNIC jointly with 
the ISC to promote the installation of F Root Server copies in Latin 
America and the Caribbean. This project has enabled the installation of 
sixth copies in Chile, Argentina, México, Venezuela, Panamá, Ecuador, 
and St. Maarten, which in turn has translated into noticeable 
improvements in direct network access for users and Internet service 
providers of these countries and a relevant contribution to the 
stability of the Internet both within the entire region as well as at 
global level.

This project is an example of the multistakeholder cooperation models 
promoted by the World Summit on the Information Society, one through 
which both government and private organizations can work collaboratively 
in benefit of Internet stability and growth in the region, goals to 
which LACNIC is strongly committed.

cumprimento ao acordo assinado durante o evento LACNIC XII em Panamá em 
maio deste ano, LACNIC (Registro de Endereços da Internet para América 
Latina e Caribe), ISC (Internet Systems Consortium), e OC-IX (the Open 
Caribbean Internet Exchange)  instalão hoje em St. Maarten o primeiro 
Servidor DNS Raiz no Caribe (sétimo na América Latina e o Caribe) dentro 
do projeto +Raices.

A inauguração foi realizada hoje 9 de julho no marco do lançamento 
oficial do 1º PTT (ponto de troca de tráfego) do Caribe na sede de 
OC-IX. Participarão no ato de abertura representantes de ISC, LACNIC e 
OC-IX.
A instalação de esta copia na sede de OC-IX, implica uma notável melhora 
no acesso direto a rede por parte dos usuários e os provedores de 
serviços de Internet caribenhos, conta com o apoio financeiro de LACNIC 
e aportes de equipamento do Cisco System.

O Projeto +Raices, é uma iniciativa de LACNIC conjuntamente com ISC para 
promover a instalação de cópias do Servidor F em América Latina e no 
Caribe. Até a hoje +Raices há permitido a instalação na região de sete 
cópias no Chile, na Argentina, no México, na Venezuela, no Panamá no 
Equador, e na Sint Maarten significando uma notável melhora da rede 
nesses países e uma contribuição relevante a estabilidade da Internet em 
toda a região e a nível global.

Este projeto é um exemplo dos modelos de cooperação multistakeholder 
promovidos pela Cúpula Mundial da Sociedade da Informação, onde
