*Brecha Digital: FRIDA anuncia apoyos para redes comunitarias y 
tecnología y género*


**

El Fondo Regional para la Innovación Digital en América Latina y el 
Caribe (FRIDA) anuncia los siete proyectos ganadores de su convocatoria 
2018. Las iniciativas seleccionadas recibirán apoyos económicos por un 
total de US$ 95.000 en premios, subvenciones y escalamientos.

Pese al crecimiento en la penetración de Internet en América Latina y el 
Caribe, persisten desigualdades de acceso entre hombres y mujeres, entre 
la población rural y urbana y por nivel de ingreso. Con estos desafíos 
en mente, la convocatoria de 2018 se centró en iniciativas para reducir 
la brecha digital y la brecha de género en tecnología en América Latina 
y Caribe.  Se trabajó en torno a dos temáticas específicas: Redes 
Comunitarias y equidad de género en la industria de Tecnología e Internet.

*Fosso Digital: FRIDA anuncia apoios para redes comunitárias e 
tecnologia e gênero*

O Fundo Regional para a Inovação Digital na América Latina e o Caribe 
(FRIDA) anuncia os sete projetos vencedores de sua chamada 2018. As 
iniciativas selecionadas irão receber apoios econômicos por um total de 
US$ 95.000 em prêmios, subsídios e escalamentos.

Apesar do crescimento da penetração da Internet na América Latina e o 
Caribe, as desigualdades de acesso entre homens e mulheres, entre a 
população rural e urbana e por nível de renda persistem. Em resposta a 
esses desafios, o Programa FRIDA decidiu apoiar projetos inovadores 
sobre o fosso digital e a lacuna de gênero na tecnologia. Desta maneira, 
o foco temático da chamada deste ano foi Redes Comunitárias e a 
igualdade de gênero na indústria da Tecnologia e da Internet.

*Digital Divide: FRIDA Announces Support for Community Networks and 
Technologies and Gender*

The Regional Fund for Digital Innovation in Latin America and the 
Caribbean (FRIDA) is pleased to announce the seven winning initiatives 
from its 2018 application cycle. The selected projects will receive 
financial support for a total of USD 95,000 in awards, grants, and 
scale-up grants.

Despite an increase in Internet penetration in Latin America and the 
Caribbean, inequality in access persists between men and women,  rural 
and urban populations, and people with different income levels. With 
these challenges in mind, the 2018 call for proposals centered around 
the digital divide and gender gap in technology in Latin America and the 
Caribbean. The program worked on two specific thematic areas: Community 
Networks and gender equality in the Technology and Internet Industry.
