Hi Mehmet,

How’ve you been?


I did not know your project Network Atlas, I think it is quite interesting,
but I wonder how it differs from other interactive map systems that already
show capacity, traffic, users and providers?


Would your idea be to make a system similar to the PeeringDB facing
undersea cables? Well some points I think are essential for a good
interactive map database.

Follow my suggestions:


1) Show all CLSs on your map.


2) Show the cable type (e.g, LW, SPA, LWA, RA or DA) on your map.


3) For the cables under construction show the positioning of the BMH to the
BU (although I know that this is difficult to obtain would be quite
interesting)


4) Show the lifetime of each cable (we know that the life time is 25 years,
so if a cable was deployed in 2015, it will still have 22 years of life),
this helps people have the understanding when a system will need to upgrade.


5) For Dry Plant systems and components of each cable, show whether they
are closed systems (turnkey end-to-end solution) or OLS (Open Line System,
example MAREA of Telxius, Facebook and Microsoft), since it is an OLS cable
it is cheaper and has more chance of investing.


6) Mapping the Lit Capacity and Potential Capacity of each cable on the
map, just as in PeeringDB a person searches for a CDN or capacity and
transit vendor, you can search your map/system to see if there is a cable
to invest. Lit Capacity is the metric that matters when assessing current
capacity supply in the market.


7) Show the cables that are property-saving  (e.g, the cables of Google and
some of Facebook) because these cables already have capacity occupied and
possibly no more pairs or band to sell.


8) Show on the map the exact or approximate points of the 12 nautical miles
(UNCLOS 3 and 33) of the territorial sea where the particular cable arrives
and the point of the 24 nautical miles that separate the EEZ (Exclusive
Economic Zone) respecting the regulation (UNCLOS 58 , 113-155 and GCHS
26-30).


9) Work together with the ICPC (International Cable Protection Committee)
database to determine the latest security incidents in each cable (ship
anchors, fishing, sharks, natural hazards, piracy and other activities that
may have caused damage in each cable) and replicate this information in
some way on your map.


10) Still about security data try to use the data mailed from some
Automatic Identification System (AIS) and replicate on your map.
